The MSU Jazz Studies Program received numerous awards at the 36th annual Elmhurst College Jazz Festival/Competition held Feb. 21-23 in Illinois. More than 50 jazz bands from various colleges and universities across the Midwest competed. The MSU Jazz Band I was awarded outstanding recognition along with jazz studies' students who received individual recognition.

Paul Popiel, a doctoral student and instructor of wind conducting, was named winner of the Frank L. Battisti Conducting Residency Award by the Tanglewood Music Center. He will study and assist with the Youth Wind Ensemble this summer.

William Schoenl, professor of history, is included in “Who’s Who in America” for the second consecutive year.
