One Book, One Community
The One Book, One Community book selection for 2007 is Lay That Trumpet in Our Hands by Susan Carol McCarthy. A series of events centered on the themes of the book will take place Aug. 22 to Sept. 25.
One Book, One Community is co-sponsored by the city of East Lansing and MSU to encourage the city-university community to read the same book and come together to discuss it in a variety of settings.

Wednesday, Aug. 22
7:30 p.m. – Kick-off: An Evening With Susan Carol McCarthy. Free, ticketed event. East Lansing High School Auditorium.
Thursday, Aug. 23
9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. – University welcome for incoming MSU students, featuring Susan Carol McCarthy and Evangeline Moore. Public welcome. Wharton Center.
Tuesday, Sept. 4, 11 and 18
7 p.m. – Writing Workshop: In Our Own Time: Personal History and Personal Connections with History. Preregistration required. Community Room, East Lansing Public Library.
Friday, Sept. 7
5 p.m. – Family event: Toot Your Horn: A Celebration of Our Community. Sponsored by the Friends of the East Lansing Public Library. East Lansing Public Library.
Sunday, Sept. 9
2 p.m. – Civil Rights in East Lansing, co-sponsored by East Lansing Historical Society and East Lansing Centennial Commission. Banquet Room, Hannah Community Center.
