4-H Exploration Days


The 39th annual “4-H Explora-tion Days” will be on campus June 18 to 20. More than 2,500 students and adult volunteers from all over Michigan will be at this precollege program. There are almost 200 hands-on classroom and field trip sessions in many areas of interest including veterinary medicine, Web design, sign language, songwriting, organic farming and many more. Student Organic Farm


MSU students from the Institute of Agricultural Technology have begun selling organic produce at a farm stand on campus. Salad mix, spinach, cooking greens, potted and cut herbs, potatoes and green garlic are now on sale, but within the next month they’ll offer a variety of vegetables, herbs, cut flowers and strawberries. The stand is located on Farm Lane in front of the MSU Auditorium and is open 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays through November.


Wild Wednesdays


The MSU Kellogg Bird Sanctuary, 12685 East C Ave., Augusta, will kick off its first “Wild Wednesday” of the summer on June 25 with the “Bonkers for Bats” program. The one-hour program begins at 7 p.m. and admission is free for sanctuary members or free with paid general admission. General admission fees are $4 for adults, $2 for seniors (65 and older), $1 for children (2 to 12 years old) and free for children younger than 2. Upcoming programs in the series include: “Froggy Fun,” “Feather and Fur,” “Pollinator Party” and “Insect Olympics.” For more information call (269) 671-2510 or e-mail birdsanctuary@kbs.msu.edu


MSU Sailing Center


The Department of Intramural Sports and Recreative Services at MSU has opened the MSU Sailing Center at Lake Lansing for the 2008 season. Sailing classes for adults and youth are available June through September and private lessons are also available. For those that already know how to sail, the Sailing Center offers seasonal, monthly or weekly memberships for individuals and families that include use of boats.
