Summer Day Camp adventures offered at bird sanctuary


Beginning June 23, kids can venture outside and learn about the earth, science and the environment at four one-week summer day camp sessions offered by MSU’s Kellogg Bird Sanctuary near Augusta.


Sanctuary staff, working in collaboration with MSU faculty, staff and graduate students, will lead the summer day camp adventures. Camp is open to children ages 6 to 12. All campers must have completed kindergarten.


Summer Day Camp sessions will be:


June 23-27: Earth Explorations


July 14-18: Animal Homes and Hideouts


July 21-25: Trees, Weeds, Flowers and Seeds

Sessions run Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., with an early drop-off option of 8 a.m.

Online course offered on FMLA


MSU’s School of Labor and Industrial Relations and MSU Global have partnered to launch an online course titled “Administering the Family and Medical Leave Act.”


“We have developed our first online course to cover the FMLA because we believe the issue is an important one, and we believe that it is appropriate for online delivery,” said Richard Block, interim director and professor of SLIR.


The course was developed by experts in the labor and industrial relations field, and explores the fundamentals of the FMLA, providing the latest information on complying with the act.

Faculty and Staff Golf Club seeks new members


MSU faculty members and staff are invited to join the MSU Faculty and Staff Golf Club. Annual membership is $15 and includes many benefits, including:


• Opportunities to meet other faculty and staff who share an interest in golf.


• Opportunities to play in 18-hole tournaments every weekend from April 5 through September 6 at prime morning tee times on either the Forest Akers East or West courses.


• Flexible schedules – there is no obligation to play every weekend or find a substitute.


• USGA Handicap service.


• Season-long match play tournament and season-ending President’s Outing with awards banquet.


• The opportunity to play in the annual match with the University of Michigan Golf League.

JUNE 14: Kellogg Bird Sanctuary hosts a garden celebration

MSU’s Kellogg Bird Sanctuary near Augusta will host “Milkweeds, Monarchs, and More!” a presentation by Ilse Gebhard of the Kalamazoo Audubon Society from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on June 14.


The program celebrates the sanctuary’s pollinator garden, which is undergoing renovation. Individuals can support the effort by purchasing a stepping stone, which will be placed in the garden, for $40, $60 or $80.


The program is free for individuals who have purchased a stepping stone, $3 for members of KBS, $5 for nonmembers and $2 for children.
