Department of History

Daina Ramey Berry brings style, rigor, and uncommon energy to classes that range from an innovative, team-taught course about the history of African American music through a series of lecture courses on the history of slavery to graduate research seminars. An honors student calls Berry “easily one of the best professors I have had at Michigan State.”

Rodney T. Whitaker
School of Music

Rodney T. Whitaker is recognized as one of the world’s premiere jazz bass performers and pedagogues. A former member of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and member of the Wynton Marsalis Jazz Septet, he has performed throughout the world. At MSU, he has developed a jazz studies program that has made a profound and positive difference.
