MEASURING MOTHERING

The quality of motherhood receives a lot of scrutiny, whether the mother stands watch over her baby on two Birkenstocks or four shod hooves.

A research project at MSU's Merillat Equine Center in Adrian examines the impact mothers have on their offspring's ability to cope.

McPherson professorship opens doors of science to all students

Acknowledging that science today spans far beyond the laboratory, MSU, with the generosity of an anonymous donor, has announced an innovative academic initiative to bring science to the future's decision makers.

The initiative will be called the M. Peter and Joanne M. McPherson Endowed Professor for the Understanding of Science. (for a complete story)

University Development staff meets fund-raising challenge

Chuck Webb, vice president for University development, wants the rest of MSU to know that his employees practice what they preach.

The All University Campaign, the annual campaign that offers employees the opportunity to help raise critical dollars for Univer-sity programs, is still ongoing, yet University Development has already set a record in dollars raised in personal gifts from its staff members. (for a complete story)

MSU Police outreach effort benefits officers, community

A new outreach effort by the Department of Police and Public Safety offers citizens important information should they be stopped by an officer and promises those citizens that they'll never have to wonder why the police have pulled them over.

Following the suggestions of students and others with whom the department has had contact, the police have developed a brochure outlining what citizens should do if they are stopped by the police and giving them tips on how to make their voices heard. (for a complete story)
