The College of Engineering's Currents Magazine, published for alumni, faculty, staff and students, received a Superb Award for outstanding craftsmanship at the 15th annual Lansing Area Printing and Graphics Club Superb Gallery and Awards Ceremony.

Yasmin Mody Richmond, senior specialist in the College of Human Medicine, received a Lester J. Evans Distinguished Service Award, the college's highest service award, for her many years of service devoted to faculty affairs, curriculum development and student mentoring.

Judith Palac, associate professor of music, was selected as the 2003 Teacher of the Year by the American String Teachers Association, Michigan Chapter.

Daina Ramey Berry, assistant professor of history, received a Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship to conduct research at Duke University for the 2003-04 academic year.

"The Tribute of Blood: Army, Honor, Race and Nation in Brazil, 1864-1945," written by Peter M. Beattie, associate professor of history, was named the best new book on Brazil in English by the Brazil Section of the Latin American Studies Association.

The Science Fiction Genre Evolution Project, a registered student organization advised by Lister Matheson, professor of English, won a Department of Student Life "Leadership Award" for best educational program. The group was honored for its workshop on science fiction in conjunction with the 2002 "One Book, One Community" program.

The American Educational Research Association honored two College of Education professors with awards at its annual meeting in April. Yong Zhao, associate professor of counseling, educational psychology and special education, received the Raymond B. Cattell Early Career Award. BetsAnn Smith, assistant professor of educational administration, received a Palmer O. Johnson Memorial Award.
