Study shows effectiveness of new, quicker strep test
Research at MSU found that a new test that provides a quicker method for determining the presence of a type of strep that can cause fatal meningitis or pneumonia in newborns is effective more than 90 percent of the time. (Full story)

MSU Safe Place marks 10th anniversary
MSU's on-campus shelter for victims of relationship violence was scheduled to open in July of 1994. When an MSU student and her two children needed to escape a violent living situation, the partially-furnished shelter with no alarm system yet in place opened early to them in June of that year. Authors Susan hagen and Mary Carouba will visit MSU on Nov. 18 to share the experiences of writing and researching their book, "Women at Ground Zero: Stories of Courage and Compassion." (Full story)
New research suggests common minerals soak up pesticides, contaminants
New research at MSU suggests that dousing soils with solutions that are rich in everyday minerals and salts might help soils more effectively soak up pesticides and other organic contaminants. (Full story)

Opera Theatre to present 'Carousel'
MSU Opera Theatre and the MSU Department of Theatre will present Rodgers & Hammerstein's classic American musical "Carousel" on Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 19 and 20 at 8 p.m., and on Nov. 21 at 3 p.m. at Fairchild Theatre (east side of MSU Auditorium Building at Farm lane and Auditorium Roads).
