CHM building plan moving forward

Partners from MSU and the Grand Rapids area got together last week to present and detail a “proof of concept” that outlined the feasibility of building a four-year accredited medical school in West Michigan. Taking part in the press briefing (l-r) were David Van Andel, chairman and CEO of the Van Andel Institute; Marsha Rappley, acting dean of the MSU College of Human Medicine; Richard Breon, president and CEO of Spectrum Health; Mike Jandernoa, Bridge Street Capital Partners; Birgit Klohs, president of The Right Place, Inc.; David Baumgartner, vice president of medical affairs/chief technology officer, St. Mary’s Health Care; Mark Murray, president of Grand Valley State University; and MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon.

Few doctors receive adequate training in end-of-life care

Study finds CEOs, execs fired at same rate, for different reasons

In a recent study of forced turnovers among chief executive officers and top executives of 443 large firms, two finance professors from MSU’s Eli Broad College of Business found both classes of managers face dismissal at about the same rate, but that non-CEO firings can’t be as closely related to a firm’s stock performance as CEO firings. Professor honored for her 'transforming influence'

Geneva Smitherman, University Distinguished Professor of English and the director of the MSU African American Language and Literacy Program, received the James R.
