MSU MUSEUM
"Great Lakes Native Quilting" exhibit opens Sept. 19 and runs through Feb. 27, 2000.
An opening reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m.
Sept. 19, with a gallery tour at 3 p.m.
The exhibit examines the historical introduction
of quilting, as well as the contemporary use and meaning of quilts made
by Oneida, Odawa, Potawatomi, Ojibwa, Mohawk, Cree, Winnebago and Menominee
quiltmakers living in Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, New York and Ontario.

Violist Jesus Alfonzo
will be in concert at 6 p.m. Sept. 17 in Hart Recital Hall. This performance
is free.
Pianist Yuko Kishmoto and flutist Scott Dankert
will be in concert at 8 p.m. Sept. 20 in
the Hart Recital Hall. This performance is free.
A concert for the Midwest Conference on Asian
Affairs will be held at 8 p.m. Sept. 24
in the Music Building Auditorium.
This is a special program performed by faculty
and students in the School of Music of Asian ethnic heritage, highlighting
their talents and the contributions that Asians are making to the performing
arts in America.
The Wind Symphony
will be in concert at 8 p.m. Sept. 24 in the Great Hall of Wharton Center.
On the program are "Circus Polka" by
Stravinsky, "Toccata Marziale" by Vaughan Williams, "Dionysiaques"
by Florent Schmitt, "Motown Metal" by Michael Daugherty and "American
Games" by Nicholas Maw.
The Symphony Orchestra with
guest pianist Ralph Votapek will perform at 8 p.m. Sept. 25 in the Great
Hall of Wharton Center.
The program includes Mozart's "Overture to
La Nozze de Figaro," Prokofiev's "Piano Concerto No. 2" and
Tchaikovsky's "Symphony No. 5."
Soprano Meredith Zara and pianist Deborah Moriarty
will perform at 3 p.m. Sept. 26 in the
Fairchild Theatre.
Pianist Mihwa Chang
will perform at 8 p.m. Sept. 27 in the Music Building Auditorium. This performance
is free.
Pianist Se-Young Choi
will perform at 6 p.m. Sept. 28 in the Music Building Auditorium. The performance
is free.
Guest artists Michael Chikuzen Gould and Chieko
Iwasaki will perform at 8 p.m. Sept. 28
in the Music Building Auditorium. This performance is free.
Unless noted otherwise, tickets are $6 for the public,
$4 for senior citizens, and free for MSU students and those under 18.

THEATRE DEPARTMENT
"She Stoops to Conquer" by Oliver Goldsmith will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Sept.
30 and Oct. 7; at 8 p.m. Oct. 1, 2, 8 and 9; and at 2 p.m. Oct. 3 in the
Pasant Theatre, Wharton Center.
In this complex tale, Marlowe thinks the manor
house of his host is an inn and that the heiress daughter is a barmaid,
the mother thinks her nitwit boy is Socrates, the father would rather be
hunting, Constance would rather get married, Constance's lover would like
to elope and only Kate really knows the score.
Season tickets are $38.25 for the public and $33.75
for students.

WHARTON CENTER
Acclaimed contemporary pop vocal stylist Michael
Feinstein will team up with the Greater Lansing Symphony Orchestra at
8 p.m. Sept. 17 and 18 in the Great Hall.
An accomplished pianist and composer, Feinstein
drew inspiration from George and Ira Gershwin. He has evolved his appreciation
and admiration for the talent of the Gershwins into a successful career.
Tickets are $24 to $36.
The Moscow State Radio Symphony Orchestra and
Chorus will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sept.
29 in the Great Hall.
The gala program is under the direction of Algis
Zhuraitis of the Bolshoi Theatre.
Various soloists of the Bolshoi Opera will join
the orchestra and chorus and perform Verdi's "Requiem."
Tickets are $20 to $34.
