In the fruit and vegetable aisles, American supermarkets typically sell quality and uniformity rather than touchy and feely. But the supermarket aisles are bringing connections that are a rich, often moving, global connection to American shoppers.

MSU participating in Web-based survey about early career faculty

MSU is among approximately 24 higher education institutions participating in a Web-based survey designed to gather information about ways to enhance institutional experiences for early career faculty. (Full Story)

Enrollment up slightly from year ago

According to preliminary enrollment figures, MSU is expecting its total enrollment to be approximately 45,100 students, a slight increase over last year’s 44,836.

BOT approves auto research lab contract

At its Sept. 16 meeting, the MSU Board of Trustees approved the hiring of two Lansing-area contractors for two major on-campus projects. (Full Story)

Large-animal critical care center to open on campus

A new critical-care center for horses and other large animals at MSU will help keep animals and people safe from infectious diseases, treat sick animals in state-of-the-art facilities, and help maintain the state of Michigan’s nearly $2 billion equine industry. (Full Story)

Lawyer in Maurice Clarett case to speak at MSU Saturday

Robert McCormick, an MSU law professor who served as co-counsel in the Maurice Clarett case, will speak at MSU this Saturday, Oct. 1. (Full Story)

MSU to host public forums on Katrina and its aftermath

MSU is offering a series of public forums addressing the devastating impact of Hurricane Katrina and exploring the social, physical and human issues surrounding the disaster. The series, “Coming to Terms with Katrina and Its Aftermath,” is free and open to the MSU and Greater Lansing communities. No pre-registration is required. (Full Story)

Concert at Wharton to benefit New Orleans musicians, Red Cross

New Orleans is known for its music, with jazz and blues floating out of doors and windows across the city. While many of the city’s artists have gained national acclaim, the lifeblood for most New Orleans musicians is playing the everyday gigs like weddings, parties and nightclub shows. With the evacuation and devastation of the city due to Hurricane Katrina, that source of revenue has disappeared. (Full Story)

Forum to examine academic study of religion

The Department of Religious Studies at MSU will sponsor a weeklong forum examining the academic study of religion that will feature three lectures by noted religion scholar Charles H. Long. (Full Story)

Video games to be focus of conference

The next generation of video games will be explored at an international conference at MSU. (Full Story)
